NEW THIS MONTH: Solstice & Grand Conjunction

NEW THIS MONTH: Solstice & Grand Conjunction

December 21st. was the most unique Winter Solstice in 800 years. Not only was it the longest day of the year, but it was also the time for the Grand Conjunction when the two plants, Jupiter and Saturn appeared next to one another in the early night sky.

We found a location that would give us a beautiful full sky view to the west knowing that the sun would set behind Santa Cruz Island off the Ventura coast.

We were not exactly sure where the planets would show up knew it would be in western sky.

It was a beautiful sunset and we rolled camera about 40 minutes before sunset resulting in an incredible sky show of ever changing color. Then, as the sun set below the horizon we put the camera into time-lapse mode and kept shooting as the dual planets dropped into our view.

We hope you enjoy this Winter Solstice sunset with its once-in-a-lifetime ending of the Grand Conjunction.
